Bloggers are now often just putting up a feedburner(or some other network) link to their feed for just the feed readers. In the process, they are neglecting people who still don’t understand or use feed readers.

It wasn’t until I ran my blog a few months, before I even fully understood RSS feeds and how important they are, for both publishers and users. If you don’t understand much about RSS/Atom feeds, I explain it all in this previous blog post What is RSS/Atom?

To get around this gap in knowledge, I realized what I needed to do, was also add email subscription to my site. You can sign up through 3rd parties to do the email subscriptions, the same way you do with your regular feed. Feedburner since this april, now has email subscriptions as apart of their service. I highly recommend using them since they are now owned by Google. The subscriber just enters their email into a box on your site and they will get notified by email the next morning, only if there is any new blog posts/articles posted.

A significant portion of my subscribers are now through email after adding it to Dollars Blog. You should have both email and feed reader options on all your sites or you will lose a lot of potential subscribers.
