When you first start a website you may have given it a few backlinks and gave it a SEO optimization overhaul. You may have noticed a decent ranking even though your site is only 2 or 3 months old. And then suddenly your site dissapears! It was on page 3 for a competitive keyword and now it can’t be found on even page 10! You my friend are the victim of the notorious “Google dance”. Google holds rankings in multiple datacenters. If your rankings dissapear it means the datacenter is showing old data, before your site had a better rank.
Your rankings will dissapear and reappear periodically INDEFINITELY, if you don’t do anything about it! I have a site that I created in June that dissapered in rankings for well over a month. Then magically it reappeared again with high rankings on all my posts. Unfortunately, it dissapeared again and it is still gone right now even more than a month later! Some of the other sites I started in spring 07 went through this, but it was much shorter and only happened once.
What was the difference between these sites?
It really all comes down to pagerank and authority. The site that is going through another “sandbox” is the one ive made the least effort in getting backlinks for (it’s a PR 3). The 2 sites I made in April and May are now Pagerank 4’s with links from highly respected sites in their niche. It actually now shows up for the 2 major competitive words (which gets well over 10,000 searches a month per each keyword in google) in the first 3 or 4 pages in Google. I have other sites that have done “dances”, but they also went through it to a lesser extent because they received more focus on backlink building.
