Demographics of Feed Subscribers
Most people today still don’t know what RSS or feed readers are all about. I admit, I didn’t even learn what it was all about until I had my blog for a few months. I would imagine the overwhelming majority of RSS subscribers have their own blog or website. Getting RSS subscribers is often a sign of good content. RSS subscribers are the most web savvy and usually the most intelligent.
It would make sense, that a high amount of subscribers means you got something worthwhile to say. Not everyone has things that are worthwhile to say on their blogs, even when they try. I know everyone would like to be a pro-blogger, but some people just don’t have the gift to write well or interesting enough to garner interest and loyal readers. Since most RSS subscribers are webmasters and loyal readers, they will be more likely to give you a backlink from their website, share your blog posts in forums, or vote you at digg.

Yeah.. we need to educate our users as well how to subscribe to our feeds or give some “incentive” to subscribe to our feed

So Autopilot here thinks her readers belong to the dimmer side of humanity. Good strategy, bit like political parties are always saying the they just have to activate their supporters and rest will be history. Just like in politics, you can get much higher with actually doing something that gets you those savvy people and their support. No need to start breast feeding your current readership. Or could it be the next winning link strategy to direct grannies and teach them how to start a blog and link to me…

From my experience it’s better to have small but loyal group of visitors but for that you need really to offer something valuable to them, you are doing good job your blog is great.

Google reader make it simple for people to keep track and sign up for rss feeds from blogs. Im only just getting into it myself, but it was extremely easy to setup which was the reason I held off for so long, because of a lack of understanding.

What’s great these days is that you can now integrate Google Adsense with Feedburner feeds. It wasn’t a smooth migration though. A lot of blog/website owners said their number of subscribers had gone down significantly. Since my blog was just new, it hasn’t actually affected me that much. On the otherhand, I think it still did. I had to edit the html code and that wasn’t much fun.

In my opinion it is good to try to build a strict confidence with subscribers: the more confidence, the more likely they will follow any post, offers, etc.
